Twitter integration (via Zapier)
Update about crowd.devâs Twitter integration
In recent months, Twitter has made significant changes to its API, affecting its features and pricing. These alterations havenât been communicated very openly regarding their implementation, impact, and timing.
The team at crowd.dev is nevertheless working hard to adapt in the best possible way. However, the latest price adjustments, which set API access to an exorbitant amount of $42,000 per month, wonât allow us to offer our Twitter integration as we did beforehand. The prior Twitter API was free and open, and we could include our Twitter integration in all plans, even our free Essential plan. With these new changes, we are now forced to adjust how we integrate data from Twitter.
While we are still communicating with the team at Twitter, we came up with a solution that will allow users to keep tracking their Twitter activities using our Zapier connector.
The bad news? Our native Twitter integration will be discontinued on April 31st, 2023. To keep tracking Twitter activities, you will have to use Zapier. The Zapier workflow will require some manual set-up, for which you can find a step-by-step guide below, and a Zapier premium account (starting from $19.99/month).
The good news? The new integration via Zapier will be more powerful, allowing you to search for Tweets that mention any keyword (you can even use query operators). On top of that, you can track followers of multiple Twitter accounts (thatâs something we will also be rolling out for all platforms in the next few weeks).
We hope that you understand our decision and are equally excited about the new opportunities that this workflow offers, pulling even more insights from Twitter. If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach out to us via email or join our Discord.

Requirements
To connect Twitter with crowd.dev, you will need the following:
- Twitter account
- Zapier account with a premium plan (starting at $19.99 per month)
- crowd.dev account with any plan
How to set it up
In this tutorial, you will learn how you can connect Twitter with crowd.dev using Zapier.
New followers
Once active, this workflow automatically creates an activity in crowd.dev for every new follower of a selected Twitter account. If it's the first activity of a member, it will create a new member profile with no additional effort.
Hereâs how you can set it up in 2 minutes:
- Open this Zap template.
- Log in to Zapier or create a new account. You will need a premium plan (starting at $19.99 per month) to use the Twitter trigger.
- Set-up the Zap.
- Connect your Twitter account (doesnât need to be the account you want to track).
- Select the username of the account you want to track (e.g. CrowdDotDev). If you want to track the followers of several accounts, simply duplicate the Zap at the end and repeat the setup. You will need 1 Zap per tracked account.
- Connect your crowd.dev account
- Fill out the action fields as shown below.
- Test the Zap and publish it.
- Done. đ Every time someone follows you on Twitter, a new activity will be created in crowd.dev. This will also save attributes like name, bio, location, profile picture, and reach to the member.
New tweets
Anytime a tweet matches your search query, for example, an account handle (e.g. "@CrowdDotDev"), a keyword (e.g. "crowd.dev"), or a hashtag (e.g. â#CrowdDevâ), this Zap will create an activity with a member in crowd.dev.
Hereâs how you can set it up in 2 minutes:
- Open the Zap template.
- Log in to Zapier or create a new account.
- Set up the Zap.
- Connect your Twitter account.
- Select the search term you want to track. You can, for example, monitor tweets that mention accounts (e.g. "@CrowdDotDev"), keywords (e.g. "crowd.dev"), or hashtags (e.g. â#Crowddevâ). The search also supports query operators. Learn more about it in the Twitter docs.
- Connect your crowd.dev account
- Fill out the action fields as shown below.
- Test the Zap and publish it.
- Done. đ Every time a tweet matches your search query, it will get tracked in crowd.dev.
